East London, nestled between the Nahoon and Buffalo Rivers is the only river port in South Africa.  Known as a surfers paradise, East London boasts some of the finest beaches in the world hosting many international surfing competitions.

Apart from having many collections ranging from prehistoric times in South Africa, Nguni Beadwork and maritime history, the East London Museum holds the worlds only Dodo egg.

 

Queens Park Botanical Gardens and Zoo

The Queen's Park Botanical Gardens and Zoo was originally opened as a botanical garden in 1896 by Queen Victoria. The zoo was added in the 1930's followed by the lion enclosure in 1959.
